Birding

Humboldt Charter Company out of Eureka, CA offers pelagic birdwatching trips to the Eel River Canyon in coordination with Redwood Region Audubon Society, Sean McAllister (whiteouters@gmail.com) (707) 496-8790 and Rob Fowler, (migratoriusfwlr@gmail.com) (707) 616-9841.

The trips range from 6 to 8 hours. The Steller Sunrise is a 43 foot vessel that has a restroom and covered seating. Items to bring include something to eat and drink, cameras, binoculars, wind breakers and pants and short boots are suggested. If you are subject to motion sickness we recommend Meclizine (most pharmacies carry this over-the-counter).

We will be looking for all species of albatrosses, shearwaters, storm-petrels and more. Sea mammals such as whales and dolphins are in the area. Professional spotters will be on board.

Check the 2026 schedule for dates. Contact Sean or Rob for bookings. Dates are subject to change due to weather and bookings. Departure times and returns will be announced at booking. All trips are limited to 18 passengers.
