King Salmon and Pacific Halibut Trip

On Monday June 15th, we headed out of Eureka in search of Pacific Halibut and King Salmon. We decided to troll for salmon on the way to the halibut grounds and one coho was caught and released. Our fishermen were primarily interested in halibut, so we stopped trolling and moved out to a depth of 300' near the 51 line. The halibut seemed to be sleeping as our first fish, a 20 pounder, didn't strike until about 1pm. After that, it was another stretch of inactivity until about 4pm, when a double hookup happened. These fish weighed 30 and 45 pounds. One nice Olive rockfish joined the halibut in the fish box, although we were not close to any reef structure. The ocean was flat and the winds were calm which made for a very enjoyable day. In the picture (L to R), Craige, Ernie, and Danny from Eureka, and Stanley from Pahrump, Nevada.
